Mr. Joe Bedessem arrived in New Delhi as Minister Counselor for Management Affairs (MCMA) in October 2023 after serving in the same role in Baghdad, Iraq.

Joe has served overseas in Sana’a, Yemen; Damascus, Syria; Cairo, Egypt; previously in Baghdad as well as Basrah, Iraq; Manila, Philippines, and Madrid, Spain.

Domestically, Joe has served as Staff Assistant in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, Deputy Assignments Officer in the Office of Career Development and Assignments, as A-100 Coordinator and Director of the Orientation Division at the Foreign Service Institute, and as Deputy Executive Director in the Bureau of Global Talent Management.

Joe is a 2019 Fellow of the Capstone General and Flag Officer course at the National Defense University and holds an MS in National Resource Strategy from NDU’s Eisenhower School.  He received a BS from the Pennsylvania State University.  Born and raised in the Washington, DC area, Joe and his wife have two sons.
