Security Alert – U. S. Embassy New Delhi (May 7, 2025)

Event: The Indian Ministry of Defense confirmed launching Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025.

As advised in the India Travel Advisory, U.S. citizens should avoid travel to the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. As stated in the April 23, 2025 Security Alert, U.S. government personnel are prohibited from traveling to Jammu and Kashmir.

The U.S. Embassy and all Consulates remain open for regular business.

There are potential flight disruptions across India.

  • Avoid travel to Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program(STEP) to receive security updates.
  • Notify friends and family of your safety.
  • Review your personal security plan.
