ANNOUNCEMENT: Beginning April 15, 2024, U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India will start accepting online fee payments for U.S. Passport application. Paying online allows you to avoid long wait times during your appointment at the U.S. Embassy.
Fees
Adult Applicants: Adult applicants must pay the appropriate passport renewal fee online via the U.S. government’s secure payment site, Pay.gov.
Minor Applicants: Minor applicants applying in-person are recommended to utilize the U.S. government’s secure payment site to make the payment. Alternatively, payments can be made in cash dollars, cash rupees (at the current exchange rate), demand draft (at the current exchange rate in rupees), or by credit card. Personal checks are not accepted.
Please note: Credit card transactions will be in U.S. Dollars. So please make sure that your international transactions on your card are not blocked.
Fee schedule
Consular exchange rate: $1 = Rs.87 (Effective January 13, 2025). Avoid processing delays and submit the correct amount for the service(s) you are applying for based upon when your payment will be received by the Embassy or Consulates.

Refund
Passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) fees are NOT refundable except in very limited circumstances. Please use our ACS Navigator to request a refund.
Fees for visa and other consular services not associated with a Pay.Gov transaction are NOT refundable. Requests for such refunds will NOT be responded to.

Make demand draft in favor of “American Embassy, New Delhi.”
Chennai
Make demand draft in favor of “U.S. Consulate General, Chennai.”
Demand drafts must be computer-generated. The Consulate is unable to accept handwritten demand drafts.

Make demand draft in favor of “U.S. Consulate General, Hyderabad,” and drawee branch listed as Hyderabad or payable at par.
